Introduction

The M_Dart Gallery

On this page, you can find some pictures generated by the M_Dart ray tracer. Obviously, the program is still work in progress. This page will give you some idea on its capabilities, progressing over time.

My personal version of a Cornell Box

This is my version of the Cornell Box, which I intend to use to test new global illumination features. It is rendered with 4 x 4 samples per pixel (regular sampling). Five light sources have been modeled. The square box on the ceiling, the two hemi-spheres on the walls, a directional light source shining into the box, and ambient light. The following statistics were gathered:
  • Rendering runtime: 00:05:12.33 (hh:mm:ss.hs)
  • Number of primary rays traced: 4,194,304
  • Number of shadow rays traced: 10,419,353
  • Number of unit sphere intersections: 12,582,912
  • Number of unit sphere hits: 31,258,059
  • Number of unit cylinder intersections: 4,194,304
  • Number of unit cylinder hits: 10,419,353
  • Number of unit cone intersections: 0
  • Number of unit cone hits: 0
  • Number of unit cube intersections: 37,748,736
  • Number of unit cube hits: 93,774,177
  • Number of CSG Object Evaluations: 0
  • Maximum Number of ShadePoints per Ray: 12

A swirly sphere

A sphere built out of 1,600 small spheres. It is rendered with 9 random samples per pixel (minimal distance is 0.2 in a unit pixel). Two directional light sources have been modeled. Tone mapping algorithm is Reinhard Extended. The following statistics were gathered:
  • Rendering runtime: 00:33:04.25 (hh:mm:ss.hs)
  • Number of primary rays traced: 20,250,000
  • Number of shadow rays traced: 676,649
  • Number of unit sphere intersections: 32,400,001,600
  • Number of unit sphere hits: 1,082,638,400
  • Number of unit cylinder intersections: 0
  • Number of unit cylinder hits: 0
  • Number of unit cone intersections: 0
  • Number of unit cone hits: 0
  • Number of unit cube intersections: 0
  • Number of unit cube hits: 0
  • Number of CSG Object Evaluations: 0
  • Maximum Number of ShadePoints per Ray: 84
